Own Your Integrity

In fact, you have the chief responsibility for defending (and maintaining) it over all else.  Be beyond reproach, and you’ll always stand tall and never have to fight for your own honor.

Liar Liar

If you’re in business for any length of time at all, others will eventually seek to discredit you with half truths (also known as lies).  When it happens, you’re going to have your feelings hurt, especially when someone else believes the lies they’re telling.  So, what do you do when a business associate, (former) friend, or anyone goes after your integrity?

Tell the truth.  It’s that simple.  When asked, tell the truth, and keep telling the truth in clear and concise statements.

I’m not advocating here for counter attacks.  Quite the opposite, I’m suggesting you continue to operate in the same ethical manner that you have been.  Continue taking great care of your relationships and business dealings.  The truth in your intentions and beliefs will show through your actions, and lowering your standards to counter someone else’s ill behavior does nothing to further your greater cause.

I have always believed that everyone pays (or is paid) eventually.  People who are dishonest have a way of lying themselves into dark corners.  Regardless of their motivators, they almost always find a way to wrap their own scorpion tail around and sting themselves eventually.

So, don’t worry about them.  As their own worst enemy, they are well suited for the job.  They say a man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client.  How can it be any different for a liar that lies about the lies he’s told?

Your integrity has no greater advocate than you.  After all, you’re the only person who can make it true.
